"I am still amazed how great God’s love is and what was accomplished for me at Calvary..."

I was born and raised in Liverpool. Part of my childhood was very traumatic but God took those memories and stored them away, they were dealt with later on in life. Thank God for His mercy, (Heb 4:16). I finished school and moved to Ireland. One night I went to a dance and met David. We had a very busy social life and I loved dancing. About five years into the relationship he gave me a Bible. I wondered if he was feeling ok. I accepted it thinking the next time I see him I would give it back to him. I began to read it. The words came alive for me and I couldn’t put it down. The verse of Scripture that spoke to me was, “
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”. John 3:16 I was amazed at God’s love for me.

I went to Faith Mission meetings in Skibbereen some weekends and came to realise through the Bible that I was a sinner and needed forgiveness for all I had done wrong in my life (Rom 3:23). One night as I lay in bed I asked God to forgive me all of my sins and thanked Him for what He had done for me at Calvary and asked Him to be my Lord and Saviour. I had an inner peace that night and an assurance that I was now a child of God. His word gave me this promise – “
Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” Hebrews 13:5

Two years latter I married David and came to live in Skibbereen. A year latter our son Simon was born. All was well until he was 2 weeks old, when I had a nervous breakdown.

Depression took over my life for the next 3 years and they were the blackest years of our lives. I had more hospital dinners during that time than I did at home. David was a great support to me and so was my mum and friends, without them I wouldn’t have coped. Life had become so unbearable for me that I tried to end my life, but the good Lord had His hand upon me, and always sent people my way to help. God has never left me nor forsaken me. I thought that I would never leave hospital and be well again. But praise the Lord He does answer prayer and the next 5 years I was well, despite David having a serious accident that left him with a disabled leg. I thank God that I was able to be there for David, as he was always there for me. He didn’t work for 3 years and we struggled financially, but God was always with us and guided us through this trail, and David did work again. I had a miscarriage where I grieved for two long years, but I have peace about it now, praise the Lord. Despite the relapses of depression, we’ve had happy time together and I praise the Lord for that.

I have learnt as a Christian that trials strengthen your faith and character, and enable you to face what life has to throw at you. To anyone reading this, let me say, there is no problem in life that God cannot solve. Despite times when I failed the Lord, He has never failed me. I am still amazed how great God’s love is and what was accomplished for me at Calvary. If you trust the Lord with all your heart all your sins will be forgiven and you will have a place in heaven for eternity.
