I want to tell you now how I came to the Lord. I’m a travelling person and I was reared up on the roadside. I was married at the age of 15 years and have eight children. My husband died when I was 39 and my son who was 20, died at the same time as his father. After their deaths I went wild on the drink and I thought drink would sort out everything for me but things only got worse.

My daughter and son-in-law lived in London and I went over to them, he used to read the Bible to me and I listened to him but when he’d gone I would say to my daughter, “That’s the wrong Bible he’s reading, I bet you if we get a Catholic Bible it will be a lot different to the one he’s reading.”

There was a Catholic Church not far from their house and I used to go to Mass every Sunday. When I came back one Sunday morning my daughter asked me to go to the shop with her and as we passed the Chapel all the people from the last Mass were coming out and an old lady came out with two Bibles in her hand. My daughter asked if they were Catholic Bibles and she said they were and give her one. We now could compare this Bible with my son-in-laws Bible, when we read both Bibles they basically were the same.

That evening an old Christian man came up to the house and he asked if we would like to go with him to a Christian Church so my daughter and I went with him. When we went in all the people were singing Gospel songs, clapping their hands and praising the Lord, I started to sing with them. Two men were being baptised that evening and the Lord really touched my heart. The following week I was going back to Cork and I told my daughter that I was going to find out more about this religion.

When I came back to Cork, I woke up one morning and sat up in bed and Jesus came into my mind. I started to cry and tell all my sins to Jesus and I repented of my sins. I told Jesus that I didn’t realise the suffering that He went through for me. This happened in the middle of the week, I knew about the Upper Room in Cork, so I asked the Lord to show me what to do between now and Sunday. I was going down to the town and I decided to go into the friars and a young friar brought me into a room, I told him that I had told all my sins to Jesus before coming to him and I asked him if it would be a sin to become a born-again Christian and he said that it wouldn’t, so I thanked him and went home. I listened to some Bible tapes on my stereo, I couldn’t even write my own name at the time but I said to the Lord that He knows everything and I don’t know anything and that I couldn’t read His Word or write anything, I also told Him that I wasn’t really sure if He was in my life and so I asked Him, “Could you please tell me if you are in my life or not?” This happened in the evening and I was lying on top of my bed just praising God quietly when a loud whisper came to my ear and a voice said, “Jesus wants you.” I sat up and looked around but there was no one in the room. I kept asking the Lord to show me what place I should go to and when Sunday came, I passed the Chapel and went into the Upper Room.

I was really blessed there and I went there for a couple of weeks and one Sunday night God spoke to me and I went down to the front and I got down on my and knees and told the pastor that I wanted to give my life to Jesus Christ and that is what I did.

I kept praying and asking the Lord to help me read one or two pages of His word and that would do me fine. The first Scripture that I started to learn to read was John’s Gospel and I asked the Lord to put His words down in my heart so that I wouldn’t forget them and the Lord did this for me.

This was about 12 years ago and praise the Lord, I am still going on with Jesus. Now, praise be to His holy Name, I can read most of my Bible. I give Jesus all the glory for what He has done in my life.
