"During the next 14 years I was aware that God was with me, but my conscience kept telling me that my life was far from what it should be..."

I was brought up in a good home in Co Wexford. I always knew that God was there and I feared Him, but drink go hold of me, by the time I was 20 I was a hopeless alcoholic. My family were good and never gave up on me. If it had not been for them I would have ended up sleeping rough in Cork.
Because of my alcoholic problem, I was hospitalised 25 times, and I tried to take my life on at least 4 occasions. Often I prayed that God would let me die, and yet I was terrified of death and what lay beyond it. The turn around came one night in October 1983 when I was on my own in my aunts house. Out of despair I asked God to help me. Suddenly I was aware of the presence of God, I knew I was lost but I became aware that Jesus Christ had come into the world to save sinners. I knelt at my bedside and asked God to be merciful to me a sinner. God heard my cry and saved me that night. From then on I knew I was totally forgiven. That night the desire for drink was completely taken from me, and I have never taken drink since. When I shared my experience with others I was told that God does not deal with me directly, but I know that HE does through His Son Jesus Christ. As the Bible says there is one God and one mediator between God and Man
the Man Christ Jesus. 1 Tim 2:5
During the next 14 years I was aware that God was with me, but my conscience kept telling me that my life was far from what it should be. I was with my partner Marie and when she found peace with the Lord her life changed. In August 1996 I was admitted to the intensive care unit in Bantry hospital with heart trouble. While there I searched the Scriptures to try and make sense of what was happening. As I read the Lord began to speak to me through His Word, the Scriptures have a way of cutting right to the heart of a person.
As the truth began to set me free, my attitudes changed and I put things right in my life, Marie and I were later married in 1998. It is so wonderful to pray together and to enable others to find Jesus, whom we have discovered is indeed the way, the truth and the life.
